17 August 2007 It was a strange ‘first’ for me; - I led the funeral service at Lodge Hill crematorium. Doug Hughes had come to our church several times before becoming hospitalised early in 2007. Because of that, the family especially wanted me to take the funeral for him. I was reluctant at first but I knew from hard experience that it was a call I had to answer. I played a musical tribute to Doug (he himself had been a keen musician) and then gave a short message based upon Doug’s irrepressible yen to tell people about the Lord Jesus: ‘I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us.’ (Isa 63:7) |

Mandy and I have been at Church on the Hill
since June 1999. I guess that makes it eight years going
on nine already! Mandy works at a young offenders prison as a drugs
counsellor and until last year I worked for an air charter company
as fleet manager and training Captain. Now I am retired, ugh! In the
distant past I was fortunate enough to be part of a famous pop group
and this fact accompanies me wherever I go like a silver dollar. The
Electric Light Orchestra - ELO for short - were a great group for
sure. But now times have move on and I run a small software / web
business and sing and speak at churches and also at the odd rock 'n'
roll gathering. But the main news from here is that Sandie has
nearly finished writing her book, which has the title of one of my
songs. Which one I'm not saying until it's out there... (the book
that is). Ce la
vie. |
