Another album with a themed Science Fiction bent, if you intend to buy this expecting something that sounds like Magnum, then save your money, as some of the songs would not sound out of place Queen's 'Flash Gordon' soundtrack whilst others bring to mind The Buggles. That said, there are a number of infuriatingly catchy tunes on the album, especially 'Zero Zero' and 'Pictures in my Pillow'. The slower, more reflective tunes work well too, 'Princeton' being especially emotive whilst the whole album fits together as a body of work far better than many more successful albums of the period. Once again there is an all star cast of guests that appear on the album, but much of the work was recorded by Dave Morgan himself at home, and this helps the listener as it is clear the composer is engaging with his tunes, whilst nonetheless being able to produce tunes of both energy and whimsy with equal aplomb. SPACESHIP EARTH And when I look out on to everything, so blue, as far as the eye can see If I could hold on to one precious thing, it's you, the way it used to be Communication blackout just rumours coming in Like electronic shadows riding on the wind Until the hands of time get back to Nineteen ninety-two. On Spaceship Earth, I once knew valleys wide, oceans blue I walked beside them with you, in ninety-two. I reach to touch you but nobody's there only a hologram dancing on the air The clock is spinning like there's no tomorrow (maybe there isn't) Faster, faster, out of all control The devil take the winner and drown him in his pride and let go the beginner waiting here inside And let the hands of time go back to Nineteen ninety-two. On Spaceship Earth, I once knew valleys wide, oceans blue I walked beside them with you, in ninety-two. I'll never go back home.. To Spaceship Earth, I once knew valleys wide, oceans blue I walked beside them with you, in ninety-two. Spaceship Earth, ninety-two ages old, futures new Now I see them, and I see you, forever blue. EARTH RISE I'll see the Earth rise in violet skies alone in a sea of blue And if a message come through today And if a message come through I hope it's from you Oh now, it's been such a long time since I heard anything from my home world and life must go on I just hope you can hear me UNDER THE BLUE When I was a young boy with a bullet for a brain I used to ride the space patrol across the Martian plain Zapping all the aliens before they could zap me You know you can be anything you want to be When everything under the blue is waiting for you I'd travel to a galaxy no man had ever seen and watch the creatures play there beneath a sky of green Staying long enough before transporting home for tea It's true you can be anything you want to be Cos everything under the blue is waiting for you ASTEROID Look at me now. Oh now, floating free Guess I've become than man I would be Look at me now. Oh now, can't you see I'm a light year away from the place I should be Look at me now I'm like an asteroid, in a void never come close to anyone Guess it's true, I've become an asteroid in a void, Asteroid. © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |
THE THIRD PLANET I come from the third planet my sky is blue All around is great confusion I don't know what to do My master knows no way of stopping all that is wrong I work his maths, I do his shopping I build his bombs I come from the third planet my sky is blue All around is great confusion I don't know what to do If you can hear me oh please answer in vision or sound or stars that twinkle like the dancer on synthetic ground I come from the third planet my sky is blue All around is great confusion but what can I do? Should speak in words of danger or should I watch a traveller upon a station that I can't get off I come from the third planet my sky is blue All around is great confusion I don't know what to do Deep in the shadows of this lifetime I feel a glow Maybe I'll find the things that breathes me maybe I'll know. © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |

ESCAPE FROM THE CITADEL (The ballad of ZN-102) It was after the weather war of eighty nine as we danced in the streets and we drank our wine With laughter and singing for the sky to see as I lay with my lady and she with me Dreaming all the day if there be sunshine in tomorrow then Tomorrow be my lucky day Z said quick now we must not wait for the future is early, the past is late Let us take to the road at the twilight's bell and we'll make our escape from the Citadel Dreaming all the day if we find sunshine in tomorrow then Tomorrow be our lucky day Don't look back they told us Wait for no one else You've only got your own life You've only got yourself The thunder rolled and the grey cloud flew and we turned up a collar to the crimson hue Travelled to the land of the April sky lovely ZN-102 and I Dreaming all the way if there be sunshine in tomorrow then Tomorrow be our lucky day © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |
PRINCETON If I ever go to Princeton I'll bow to nature's wisdom if ever I'm allowed to see the wheels within the wheels I will turn the clock on easy and ask the ground to leave me If I ever get to Princeton I'll remember how it feels. We were linked along a sidewalk lost in a time-warp We stood and counted UFO's tumbling headlong 'cross the sun And we terrorised the freeway with a humanising heat-ray and If I ever get to Princeton I'll remember what we've done. And in the space between the fooling while the galaxy was cooling I glimpsed the greater sorrow of tomorrow never come But we cast aside the reck'ning for stars they were a-beck'ning and If I ever get to Princeton I'll remember every one. Then a traveller from Venus set a force field between us I had the strangest feeling I had seen it all before In a tale by Dennis Wheatley he saved the world so neatly and If I ever get to Princeton I'll remember what it's called. If I ever go to Princeton I'll bow to natures wisdom and wonder how on earth I had the nerve to let it fly For in Princeton I ran into a planet I'd not been to and in Princeton I was happy for a moment of my life © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |
ONE THOUSAND WORLDS Across one thousand worlds across a universe never ending Across the frozen blue in search of knowledge new, never ending My orders are to find that door in space and time beyond which no more starlight shines and nothing but your love can reach me across one thousand worlds One Thousand Worlds, one thousand islands in a limitless ocean of blue beyond all imagining I'm travelling one thousand Worlds, searching for only one never so far from your love that I just can't go on 'cross one thousand worlds Alone I travel on a nomad on the long way to nowhere Across the frozen blue in search of knowledge new, might I grow there To where there is no day no day, no blue, no grey no words that can communicate what my eyes have seen 'cross one thousand worlds One Thousand Worlds, one thousand islands in a limitless ocean of blue beyond all imagining I'm travelling one thousand Worlds, searching for only one never so far from your love that I just can't go on 'cross one thousand worlds One Thousand Worlds, one thousand states of mind one thousand memories of home never so far behind I'm travelling one thousand Worlds, searching for only one never so far from your love that I just can't go on 'cross one thousand worlds © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |
PICTURES IN MY PILLOW Sun is high and the people are flashing by making circles across the sky and on to journey's end City wakes and the message is on the waves yes the future begins today the past is no ones friend Ah - but bad dreams like a robbers knife wait to get you in the night Red lights flashing in your brain So, we meet again. Pictures in my pillow at night I turn down the light and I see the ghost of yesterdays pain again she lies waiting for me Morning's come and it's hard to believe my luck I'm alive and the sun is up the sky's a pearly blue and in a daze can but try for a better way if the future begins today the I should be with you Pictures in my pillow at night I turn down the light and I see the ghost of yesterdays pain again she lies waiting for me Oh how she'd love to destroy the love and the joy that is you Hold on, soon the emptiness ends there's nothing to see but the blue and You - you make it all so easy (so very easy, so very easy) You - you make it all so very easy (so very easy, don't ever leave me) You - you make it all so easy Don't ever leave me. © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |
THE SECRET Have I come all this way just to find at he end of the day that the secret was always inside Have I travelled so far just to stand at the doorway to the stars when the secret was always inside Just to see the Earth rise in violet skies alone in a sea of blue And if a message come through today And if a message come through I hope it's from you Oh now, it's been such a long time since I heard anything from my home world and life must go on I just hope you can hear me Oh now, it's been such a long time since I heard anything from my home world and life must go on I just hope you can hear me © Dave Morgan - published by Peer Southern Music |
