Reunions Steve Wheate visits us on vacation from his home in Alabama. Steve was the drummer with Fred's Box, the group that played the Rum Runner club back in the seventies. Fred's Box had Bob Catley as singer and Jim O'Neill on bass. Fred (Howard Williams) played lead guitar and I played rythmn. A later incarnation of Fred's Box at the Rum Runner, with Tony Clarkin on lead guitar and Kex on drums, was renamed Magnum. Jim O'Neill moved to America in the late seventies but for some years now we have all lost touch with him. So if anyone catches sight of this who knows how to get in touch with one James Andrew (Jim) O'Neill, aka 'The Dish', please convey our best regards and ask him to contact me or Steve or somebody!! . Jim, we want to know how you are! |

It's the season of reunions - We go to see Magnum play at The Palace, Tamworth on 26th July (Pic right of Tony Clarkin, Bob Catley and me). Then on the 31st July Jeff Lynne comes to town for a rare visit. Along with Phil Hatton, Roger Spencer and Dave Pritchard we all go out for an Indian meal. |

The American preacher T.D.Jakes is at the NIA in Birmingham Centre and we go to see him. He is every bit as amazing in person as on TV. The British audience, who I had expected to be more reserved than Americans, ended up behaving with exactly the same fizz of raucous excitement that the Americans display on his TV shows. He talks for about an hour, without notes. Magnificent. . |
